Sing Along with Putumayo at Symphony Space Concert April 17

Join the Sing Along Fun When Artists from the Newest Putumayo Kids Release Sing American Music Tunes Designed to Get Everybody Singing and Dancing Ticket Sales Benefit the Non-Profit Putumayo Cross Cultural Initiative

(PRWEB) March 19, 2004 --Putumayo Kids celebrates the release of an all-new CD for families, Sing Along with Putumayo, with a festive spring family concert on Saturday, April 17 at the Peter Norton Symphony Space in New York City. Award-winning American music artists Guy Davis, Elizabeth Mitchell and Daniel Littleton and Music for Aardvarks & Other Mammals will perform at 11 a.m. Children from the Bank Street School will perform the finale song, I Will Be Your Friend."

All proceeds from the Sing Along with Putumayo concert and a portion of the proceeds from the CD benefit the Putumayo Cross-Cultural Initiative (www.putumayo.org), a non-profit organization that provides multicultural music-based programming to elementary schools inn underprivileged areas. The Sing Along with Putumayo concert will be the model for other sing along events at venues and retailers around the nation this spring and summer.

All three featured artists are donating their performances for this benefit concert:

•     Guy Davis is an acclaimed performer and award-winning recording artist who revives the traditions of acoustic blues and brings them to as many ears as possible through the material of the great blues masters, African-American stories, and his own original songs, stories and performance pieces. His song I Will Be Your Friend" is on the Putumayo CD.

•   Elizabeth Mitchell and Daniel Littleton are folk artists who perform a lovely new rendition of the classic You Are My Sunshine" for the Sing Along with Putumayo CD. With the New York City based band Ida, Elizabeth delights audiences of all ages with her 21st century arrangements of folk and country-western tunes. She recently recorded an album with Lisa Loeb.

•   Music for Aardvarks and Other Mammals is David Weinstone and friends. This offbeat group turns everything inside out, even their signature Bellybutton Song" on the Sing Along CD. This New York based rocker loves writing laugh-out-loud songs about what kids care about the most -- boogers and body parts. David recently performed this song at the International Toy Fair in New York.

Sing Along with Putumayo, the latest in Putumayo World Musics acclaimed music series for children, will be released on March 23. This rousing compilation of sing along tunes features a star-studded cast of artists singing classic folk and blues songs. Along with Mitchell, Davis and Weinstone , the CD features top artists like Arlo Guthrie, Taj Mahal, Keb Mo, Eric Bibb and others, all offering a mix of unforgettable folk, blues, bluegrass, swing and reggae that children and their families can easily sing along with.
