Low-Cost Digital Cameras Fueling Photo-Imaging Industry

efotoXpress is a software utility that uses wavelet compression technology and the new JPEG2000 standard to easily compress very large images so that they may be sent by e-mail without any loss in quality. eFotoXpress is the first product that uses the new JPEG2000 standard so that compressed images may be sent via e-mail.

SUNNYVALE, CA (PRWEB) March 20, 2004 -- AXcess News (www.axcessnews.com) released a story covering the recent boom in digital cameras with the introduction of the 8-mega pixel cameras hitting store shelves.
With the race on by Japanese manufacturers to increase storage capacity and simplify digital camera use, consumers are looking for less expensive and easy to use means of storing digital photographs.
One company may have the answer for consumers. American Multiplexer Corporation (Other OTC:AMUT.PK - News) has released a software program called eFotoXpress that allows users to easily compress and store large digital photos and email them.

According to statistics tracked by Photofinishing News on the world-wide photo finishing industry, exposures uploaded to online services grew from 2,664.7 trillion in 2003 to 6,754.7 trillion in 2004.
The statistics showed that world-wide digital camera population grew from 80 billion in 2003 to 105 billion in 2004.

Japan-based digital still camera makers, Canon, Minolta, Nikon and Olympus, have all launched new 8-megapixel cameras following Sony's November 2003 introduction of its CyberShot F282.

Lyra Research projects that, in percentage terms, photos will increasingly be printed at retail locations or via an online service, with home printing accounting for just 53 percent of photos by 2005, down from 80 percent in 2001.

The report notes one reason for this change in printing behavior is that consumers are finding the feature-packed digital camera with complex photo-printing software can often be too complicated. Consumers want both capture and output functions simplified.

American Multiplexer announced Monday the release of their newest version of eFotoXpress, V1.4, which allows users to print photos in several different sizes and store the same pictures in any file they choose.

American Multiplexer has made several announcements recently, opening online sales channels with Amazon and Tiger Direct to market the company's eFotoXpress software. The software utility retails for $49.95 and can be purchased online from those venders or directly off the company's website at www.amux.com.

In a telephone interview Tuesday, when asked why AMUT chose to market its software online, Mr. Edward Tan, CEO, American Multiplexer Corporation told AXcess News, "The whole idea is to create awareness through online sales in order to generate demand in retail stores."
