Redmond, WA (PRWEB) March 21, 2004 --E-Mail Connection LLC today officially released KidMail.net, an e-mail service that lets parents know their teens and younger children are only communicating with people authorized by the parent. Dubbed The Safe E-Mail Service", KidMail.net features a powerful yet easy-to-use online parental administration system with multiple levels of trust for outsiders". Teens and tweens" use standard e-mail software programs while young children use KidMail version 4.0 from the company. This is the latest version of the age-appropriate software package originally conceived and created in 1993.

Online Landscape

The timing coincides with the official beginning of the federal CAN-SPAM" legislation signed by President George W. Bush to control unsolicited commercial e-mail. Industry watchers believe the jury is still out on the effectiveness of the new bill, which replaces many state-level bills that were tougher on spam", much of which is inappropriate for children.

According to Mitchell London, President and CEO of E-Mail Connection LLC, spam will still find its way to consumers and children. It is essential to understand that a childs anti-spam product and an adults anti-spam product differ markedly in their requirements with respect to false negatives. For example, a 99% spam detection rate in an adult anti-spam product would be considered excellent -- this would reduce the torrent of spam down to about 3 messages per week, satisfying most adult users. However, for a parent to allow a young child to have an unsupervised e-mail account, 1% of the spam getting through, including pornographic images, is likely to be unacceptable".

A recent survey conducted on behalf of US Senator Schumer found that three-quarters of US parents are very concerned about children receiving pornographic spam. Just this past June, Applied Research found in their study of 1,000 children between the ages of 7 and 17 that more than 80 percent of children receive inappropriate mail on a daily basis.

Justifiable Concern

As a result of this climate", parents have become increasingly concerned about how to allow their children to communicate online. KidMail.net was designed to fully address the problem of unsolicited commercial e-mail directed to children and prevent contact by persons with criminal or pedophilic intent. The system allows parents to designate levels of trust to persons with whom their children are permitted -- or not permitted -- to communicate. Depending upon trust status, messages are placed in quarantine" for parental review. Parents are notified via e-mail and can access the system via the Web. Quarantined messages (including all messages from unknown senders) are sorted for quick approval or rejection.

KidMail.net Availability

In signing up for The Safe E-Mail Service, parents choose their preferred service subscription period, ranging from $5.95 monthly to $29.95 annually. KidMail.net subscriptions apply to an entire family. Customers find us from all over the globe and we are actively developing partnerships", said Paul Travis, E-Mail Connection Vice President of Sales and Marketing. We offer new power to parents subscribing to AOL, Earthlink, and other nationwide ISPs with first-generation parental controls. They find features like PCC invaluable".
