SAN FRANCISCO, CA (PRWEB) March 24, 2004 --B. Eric Rhoads Chairman of Streamline Publishing, Inc, has announced the appointment of Linda Osborne as Advertising Director of its new fine art publication, Plein Air Magazine. The monthly publication, which will be released this spring, is the first magazine devoted to the fine art of Plein air art collecting and painting. The full color glossy magazine will be distributed to a worldwide audience of art collectors and painters and cover the growing Plein air movement worldwide. Because Plein Air gains its roots for the academic tradition of fine art, the publication will cover many genres of fine art, including non-living and living artists. The publication will pride itself on its fine quality color plate reproductions of images. This is the first publication designed for collectors and artists in one publication with sections for each. According to Rhoads, Unlike any other type of fine art, the artists and collectors are often together at events and collectors are fascinated by the creation of these works. This publication will cement the link between the creation and the collection of fine art."

Linda Osborne has been involved in art and the advertising/publishing field for many years. Most recently she acted as Regional Sales Manager for the Southeast, Midwest, Mid-Atlantic states as well as Texas and International territories. Prior to her years with Southwest Art she was with Ultra Magazine working with sales and the production departments. She has also been a Vice President and General Manager in the graphics and advertising services industry. She attended the University of Houston where she pursued a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

During daily conversations with the artist and gallery advertisers it became clear Plein Air was quickly becoming a major art movement in the U.S. and beyond. Im very excited to be a part of the Plein Air magazine team. I feel this publication is what the artists and their galleries have been waiting for -- a magazine dedicated to the fine art of Plein air painting and raising awareness of its deep roots throughout history" Linda commented.

Rhoads said, Linda is not only a pro, she is an artist herself and has extensive education in art. She has made a living helping artists and galleries become known and to sell their art. Were excited shes on board for she has the skills and marketing training to act as an advisor to her customers. Lindas clients appreciate her expertise because she knows how to help them be a success".

Osbornes role with the company is to work with galleries to help them increase visibility and to connect with art collectors. She will guide artists in their marketing efforts to help them achieve more recognition in fine art circles thereby increasing their sales, invitations to juried art events and acceptance into prominent galleries.

Plein Air is a form of painting employed that has been employed by most masters of art tracing back to the 16th century. The term en Plein air" is French and essentially stands for painting out of doors on location. Plein Air painters today set up easels and paint the scene on location. Many historical records suggest that most of the great masters painted out of doors on location in order to capture the true essence of color and light. During the late 1800s the impressionists popularized out door painting coinciding with the invention of oil paint in tubes, however long before the tube of paint was invented, historical records indicate many painters ground and mixed pigments and placed them in animal bladders to keep them from drying out. Many other painters would grind pigments to mix paint on location.

The American impressionism movement started in the late 1800s in the Eastern United States, primarily in New York and Connecticut and then moved west as painters migrated to the West to document the untouched lands discovered in the West. Many painters followed the Gold Rush movement to California, which was the beginning of California becoming a prominent area for outdoor painting. Today the movement is very much alive and rapidly growing across the United States. Hundreds of clubs of painters are springing up around the world. There is a strong sense of belonging, of companionship, and a common love to create beautiful paintings. We feel it is our role to reflect this movement and fuel it," said Diane Johnson. Though many Plein air paintings are landscapes many are also figures, still life and portraits. Some painters paint in Plein Air and later create an in-studio painting with more detail using the outdoor oil sketch as a reference for color and light. All mediums are employed in Plein Air including oil, acrylic, watercolor, and charcoal sketching. The magazine will cover collecting and creation in all of these forms.

Collectors and painters can sign up to receive a free copy of the premiere collectors edition by going to www.pleinairmagazine.com or calling 800-610-5771 or out of the US 561-655-8778. The magazine will be produced monthly.
