Dallas, TX (PRWEB) March 23, 2004 ---Regimens, a mens grooming store in Dallas West Village shopping plaza, will play host to a charity event benefiting the National Prostate Cancer Coalition. The event will take place on Saturday, April 3, 2004 from noon until 9:00 PM and will offer barber shaves, vodka tasting sponsored by Nordix Vodka, and free prostate screenings by Methodist Health Systems. The event is designed to increase awareness of the importance of early detection and to raise money to support advocacy and education.
In 2004, it is estimated that more than 29,900 men nationwide will die from prostate cancer and an estimated 230,110 men will be diagnosed with the disease. Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in American men. African-American men are at increased risk for the disease, having 60 percent higher incidence and double the mortality rate of white men.
As prostate cancer affects one in six men and kills 80 men in the United States on a daily basis, we felt this would be a great cause for a mens store to support", says Regimens owner Tom Granese. He adds, We are fortunate to have support from terrific sponsors like Nordix Vodka and Methodist Health Systems."
Men are invited to come to the store and enjoy a classic barber shave or a classic martini while supporting the cause by way of donations, store purchases, and raffle tickets. Among the prizes that will be given away in the raffle are a hand made shaving set complete with a shaving brush and razor, a full line of skincare products from Maxwells Apothecary, and a Jack Spade toiletry bag. In addition to accepting donations, Regimens will donate 10% of all store sales during the event to the National Prostate Cancer Coalition.
The National Prostate Cancer Coalition (NPCC), founded in 1996, is the largest advocacy organization dedicated to ending the devastating impact of prostate cancer on men, families and society. Its goals are to increase awareness by educating the public about the disease, outreach to at-risk communities by conducting free screenings for prostate cancer, and engage citizens and associations in an effort to build an advocacy network to encourage increases in federal funding of prostate cancer research.
