Leece-Neville Announces New High Temperature Heavy-Duty Alternator

Leece-Neville introduces a new high temperature heavy-duty alternator. The new model will be sold as the 110-566, and will be approved for operating in ambient air temperatures up to 115C / 239F.

Arcade, NY (PRWEB) March 25, 2004 --- Leece-Neville Heavy Duty Systems Division of Prestolite Electric Inc. today announced the release of a new high temperature version of its well known 110-555 (Triple-Nickel) model alternator designed for heavy duty applications. The new model will be sold as the 110-566, and will be approved for operating in ambient air temperatures up to 115C / 239F.

The 110-566 has been designed after the very popular 110-555. Although it will have the same output rating as the 140 amp 110-555 (12/14 volts), this unit will actually generate more than its rated output. "We like to be very conservative in our alternator output ratings, and build in a significant safety factor," according to Jim Beirne, Vice President of Sales and Marketing.

The new 110-566 will incorporate high temperature wire in the stator windings, high temperature avalanche diodes, and high temperature Krytox® grease in its front and rear bearings, among other improvements.

"We have already upgraded over 90% of our OE production alternators to perform in these high temperature environments, with the balance to be finished by end of the 2nd quarter of 2004" says Beirne. "We have known for some time that the new emission standards were going to mean higher temperatures under the hood for most heavy-duty and medium-duty trucks. Heat is the number one killer of alternators, and we needed to make some changes so that we can continue to lead the industry in dependable, high output alternators for the heavy duty marketplace."

"We will not be satisfied with just barely meeting the new requirements, which is why we opted to go the extra mile to get the new 110-566 rated for 115C / 239F," Beirne continued. "This rating will not only satisfy the requirements of todays engines, but will get us well underway for the 2007, and even the 2010 standards. Our alternators have always been the best in the heavy duty industry for heat dissipation. Now we are even better."

Leece-Neville plans on releasing the 110-566 as an upgrade to the 110-555 alternator, which has become an icon in the heavy duty marketplace. The current 110-555 is already rated for 93C / 200F, and will still be available for those applications that do not require the additional high heat capabilities of the new model. The 110-566 will be available after June 1, 2004.
