.mobi: A Location-sensitive, Numeric Domain Names Bonanza

The proposed .mobi will generate immediate wealth for owners of generic location-sensitive and numeric domain names, as well as provide a boost to domain-name registrations and marketplace.

Berkeley, CA (PRWEB) March 24, 2004 -- DomainMart, a leading domain-name broker/agent, predicts an immediate spike in registration and value of location-sensitive and numeric domain names due to the proposed introduction of a new domain-name extension specifically for mobile devices.

The dot-mobi proposal attempts to simplify Website access and navigation, while increasing security when used with mobile devices. One of the features is enabling Websites to provide location-sensitive results. For example, when you visit banks.mobi, you will automatically see a list of the banks closest to your location. Thus, the proposal has a tremendous immediate impact on value and registration volume of generic location-sensitive domain names.

Moreover, since it is easier to enter numeric domain names in a browser when using mobile devices, there will be an added demand for numeric .com and country domains. This increases the value and registration volume of numeric .com and ccTLDs.

Furthermore, the introduction of dot-mobi will create tremendous investment opportunities when .mobi domain names become available for the public to register.

This proposal creates an immediate bonanza for owners of location-sensitive .com and ccTLDs; it will trigger a stampede to register domain names that are the numeric equivalent of popular keywords," notes Alex Tajirian, President and CEO of DomainMart.

To facilitate numeric-domain-name registrations, service providers need to modify the availability-lookup process to allow for easy conversion of characters to numeric-equivalent representation. DomainMart provides a list of such service providers.

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is expected to approve the proposal within a few months.

DomainMart is a leader in providing domain-name secondary-market services, including appraisal/valuation, escrow, leasing, parking, management, marketplace, protection, and transfer since 1996.
