Gibson's 'Passion of the Christ' based on visions of Anne Catherine Emmerich
Mel Gibson was inspired by visions of a mystic named Venerable Anne Catherine Emmerich when he wrote and directed the blockbuster epic 'Passion of the Christ'. Emmerich's diary has been published in a book titled The Dolorous Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ, which is now available for purchase.
(PRWEB) March 25, 2004 --Mel Gibson was inspired by the Bible which tells the story of Jesus Christ's death as the world knows it. But he also based his epic masterpiece 'The Passion of the Christ' on an extremely detailed and graphic account of the same event as told by a Catholic mystic.
The visions of the mystic were compiled in a book titled 'The Dolorous Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ,' which has now become available on the Christian webstore DolorousPassion.com ( http://www.dolorouspassion.com ).
According to the book's publisher, 'The Dolorous Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ' has been inspiring thousands since it first appeared in 1833--being based on the detailed visions of Our Lord's Passion and Death as seen by Venerable Anne Catherine Emmerich (1774-1824), a German Augustinian nun, and recorded by Clemens Brentano, a prominent literary figure of the day.
Gibson was so moved by 'The Dolorous Passion' that he is said to have based much of the script for his film on the book. Indeed, there are many references in the film that only appear in Emmerich's visions and not in the Gospels.
According to the book's publisher, Anne Catherine Emmerich, a saintly person from her youth and a great mystic and victim soul, was privileged by God during almost a lifetime of ecstatic visions to see all the events of Our Lord's suffering and death. Her account of the Passion and Death of Our Lord Jesus Christ, while faithful to the Bible, is heart-rending, edifying and surprising-- and filled with intimate detail. The book is also illuminating in its description of Mary's participation in the sufferings of her Son.
Among other Passion-related items, copies of 'The Dolorous Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ' in book and audiobook form are available on DolorousPassion.com ( http://www.dolorouspassion.com ).
