Unemployment Rate Shows No Signs of Improvement

The statistics for job growth are in and they do not offer much hope to those currently seeking employment. The unemployment rate held steady at 5.6 percent, which translates into 8.2 million people who are actively searching for a job but are unable to find one. There are not many experiences more difficult to endure than being unable to provide the basic necessities of life for yourself or your family.

(PRWEB) March 30, 2004 --The statistics for job growth are in and they do not offer much hope to those currently seeking employment. The unemployment rate held steady at 5.6 percent, which translates into 8.2 million people who are actively searching for a job but are unable to find one. There are not many experiences more difficult to endure than being unable to provide the basic necessities of life for yourself or your family. These times are challenging and have been compared to the times surrounding the Great Depression. As we study that period of time, we see a countless number of people in desperate circumstances, even more desperate than many people have experienced in this day. Yet, a great number triumphed over their seemingly impossible struggles. Our spirits continue to be strong today, and we too can overcome challenges. Author Jenny C. Deason has written a marvelously upbeat story set toward the end of the Great Depression that will help restore your faith in the indomitable human spirit.

Ms. Deasons new book, New Shoes for Elizabeth is a story about an immigrant family in the 1930s. The heroine of the novel is a thirteen-year old girl named Elizabeth who desperately needs a new pair of shoes. We are able to see the world as it was then through Elizabeths eyes. The author uses Elizabeths journal as a window into her private thoughts and the journal entries are one of the many highlights of the book. Another feature of this unique book is the abundant humor throughout. Laughter was an important weapon in the fight against hopelessness during the Great Depression, just as it can be today.

Everybody needs to be reminded that no situation is as hopeless as we sometimes believe it to be. This uplifting novel will do just that. New Shoes for Elizabeth is a charming, believable story that is loosely based on Ms. Deasons own family history. As we read it, we recognize that even though the unemployment statistics of today appear to be disheartening, there is hope that our countrys economic situation will improve, and with that hope, our outlook on life also begins to brighten. New Shoes for Elizabeth, published by American Book Publishing and available at a discount online at the Publisher Direct Bookstore at http://www.pdbookstore.com,will provide you with an inspiring reason to hope for a better day.
