Philadelphia, Pennsylvania based nonprofit launches nationwide technology recycling campaign and fund drive.

Cell phones and ink jet cartridges are being collected by non-profit organization to raise funds for programs that help youth and families in Philadelphia.

(PRWEB) March 30, 2004 --The Institute for the Development of African American Youth, Inc. (IDAAY) launches technology recycling program to raise funds for its' six programs that help minority youth and families in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. IDAAY is collecting used cell phones and inkjet cartridges from businesses and individuals, and redeeming these items for cash.

The nonprofit organization was founded in 1991 and has served more than 14,000 youth and their families. S. Archye Leacock the Executive Director oversees thirty employees, ten who are full time and several volunteers and interns. The programs IDAAY operate include Project T.R.I.P. which is a program that deals with youth who have problems with truancy. There is also Young Fathers United which provides education and training to young fathers, teaching them how to cope with the challenges of fatherhood, providing for their children and maintaing positive communications with the child's mother. IDAAY also manages the Don't Fall Down In The Hood program which provides psycho-educational and development services to youth who have been arrested for carrying a firearm, or assault or theft. These youth have been required to participate in the program by the Juvenile Court system in the city of Philadelphia.

The Southwest Prevention Program serves youth and their families in Southwest Philadelphia through a series of after-school and weekend activities that provide the children in the community with opportunities to grow culturally and academically. From field trips to assistance with homework, these young boys and girls have been able to turn to IDAAY for support outside of their families.

The Lynnewood Gardens Learning Center is another program IDAAY operates in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania that provides after school tutoring, movies, games and other activities for youth in Cheltenham, Pennsylvania area.

The Main Program which is conducted on the campus of Temple University provides GED training, entrepreneurship and other instruction so that youth who have dropped out of school can have an opportunity to overcome the challenges that could prevent them from succeeding in life.
Donations of used cell phones and ink jet cartridges help do more than clean up the environment, they also help IDAAY raise the funds necessary to continue its program services to youth and their families.
