Thom Greco, president of G Net CommCo announces joint endeavor together with Greg Palmer, managing director of the University of Pennsylvania's Internet 2 MAGPI in Northeast Pennsylvania

G Net CommCo, the advanced fiber optic research city in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania annouces their joint endeavor with the University of Pennsylvania's Internet 2 MAGPI to introduce the research and educational network to Northeastern Pennsylvania. Thom Greco, President and CEO of G Net CommCo and the non-profit Wilkes Barre Metropolitan Development Corporation, announces together with Greg Palmer, managing director of MAGPI, the University of Pennsylvania' Internet 2, the partnership whereby G Net CommCo will become the aggregator of all Internet 2 traffic in Northeast Pennsylvania. G Net CommCo is creating a "research city" - "beta community" for advanced digital applications, content and platforms by running high grade fiber optics through abandoned city steam pipes within a twenty block grid of Wilkes Barre, Pa. This will be a model for the nation where the private community will have access to collaborate with the research community for the development of advanced applications.

WILKES-BARRE: On Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at 10:30 AM, Thom Greco of G Net CommCo will join Greg Palmer of MAGPI and the Internet 2 to announce their joint endeavor to bring the research and educational Internet 2 to Northeast Pennsylvania.

   G Net CommCo is the company along with the non-profit Wilkes Barre Metropolitan Development Corporation that has obtained the rights to the underground abandoned city steam pipes and the central office. High grade fiber will be available to all businesses and residences within the downtown twenty block grid.

   The availability of the Internet 2 for research collaboration for the first time to a private community will drive technology companies and individuals to downtown Wilkes Barre to live and work. This single economic tool can turn the core of the city back to the business and residential activity it once enjoyed. Todays industry of growth and higher paying jobs is advanced technology. The Internet 2 through University of Pennsylvanias MAGPI gives access to the top research university labs and research corporations in America and internationally.
