Georgia Techs Hazardous Materials Training Program Launches HAZWOPER for Site Cleanup Operations Course, May 10-14, 2004

Hazardous waste cleanup activities can be dangerous to both workers and the environment without proper training and in-place procedures. Many organizations are beginning to take a closer look at training employees to remediate spills, the real dangers cleanups can present and how to safely respond.

ATLANTA (PRWEB) March 31, 2004 -- Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) will present the first offering of HAZWOPER for Site Cleanup Operations, May 10-14, 2004. The 40-hour course is designed to provide the basic knowledge and techniques required by OSHA for hazardous waste site cleanup workers. The training will also benefit participants working in the transportation, food processing and metal plants, chemical industries, civil and environmental engineering contractors, and waste treatment facilities. About the Hazardous Materials Training Program
The Hazardous Materials Training Program houses fifteen active courses reflecting the current training needs for anyone using hazardous materials or in high risk organizations such as national security, national defense, chemical and food processing, biological material handling, research institutes and law enforcement.

As the instructional component of Georgia Techs Center for Emergency Response Technology (CERTIP), the Hazardous Materials Training program has been recognized as an outstanding program three times by governmental leaders and organizations.

•President George W. Bush visited Georgia Tech, was briefed on the Hazmat Training program, and observed a mutual aid training drill in 2001.
•Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) declared the program as the Hazardous Materials Center of Excellence" for the State of Georgia in 2002.
•Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue named the CERTIP program as a state center for excellence in homeland security," October 15, 2003.
