Deja Blues Releases 2nd CD. Award winning blues band releases "Killin' the Grass!" a live recording, showcasing what they do best ...performing live.

"Killin' the Grass!" live recording from Deja Blues now available. Selected songs appeal to fans of adult contemporary, jazz, classic rock and of course blues.

(PRWEB) April 1, 2004 -- Deja Blues fans have been waiting a long time for a recording like this: Deja Blues doing what they do best, performing live! Now they can enjoy Deja Blues in their car or their living room.

Deja Blues captured ten of their best songs for their first live CD Killin the Grass!" recorded September 1, 2003 at the Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-Off" -- attended by 300,000 happy rib-eaters and grass-killers. Appropriately named Killin the Grass" because thats exactly how it went down on that beautiful September day; the poor grass didnt stand a chance, not with a mob of happy rib-eaters dancing to these very songs.

The Best of the West Nugget Rib Cook-Off" was Deja Blues third outdoor festival in as many days. While the band enjoys being in high demand, their hectic schedule was beginning to take a toll on the voice of lead singer Wanda Cobb. Never shying away from giving each performance her all, the strain on her vocal chords becomes slightly noticeable by track number seven when a fan brings her lemonade (Wanda says the lemonade also helped her wash down all the free ribs the cookers kept bringing as a kind of thank-you for generating such a large, and hungry crowd in their area).

Deja Blues recorded over 3 hours of material that day, and selected songs for Killin the Grass!" which, like their live performance, appeals to fans of adult contemporary, jazz, classic rock and of course blues. The CD condenses a typical Deja Blues show into a mere 56 minutes.

After a short welcome message, the boys in the band launch into a little warm up tune", Hideaway, an instrumental that showcases Gordon Bulcocks hot guitar licks. Unchain My Heart, the next song brings Wanda to the front of the stage where she proceeds to take command of the audience, beckoning the crowd to dance and kill the grass.

Deja Blues feeds on the energy of their audience. And they certainly ate well this day as the crowd roared and danced with unbridled joy. Real crowd pleasers were the widely recognized songs of Aint No Sunshine and Give Me One Reason. Rock Me Baby, the kind of classic blues that Deja Blues does best, also appeared on the bands first self-titled CD. Middle Aged Blues Boogie, the bands most requested song is an anthem for middle aged women who like Wanda, still got it goin on. The highlight of Killin the Grass!" is the song Red House, a Jimi Hendrix song where as Gordon puts it, Wanda really gets after one!"

Killin the Grass!" also delivers great upbeat danceable versions of I Just Wanna Make Love to You, and Uhh! Then culminates with the band performing Peter Gunn while Wanda directs the audience to follow her lead with some old-school" dancing. It was a sight to behold. Moms, Dads and kids ...everybody danced until at last ...the grass was killed!

Deja Blues is not your typical blues band. They remake some of the great classic tunes that go back as far as the 1960s. Songs people recognize, remember and love; hence use of the word deja". Deja Blues possesses a unique ability to mix music from different genres and timeframes into expressions that are both contemporary and timeless simply by adding their own blend of style, talent and blues chords. Suddenly everything old is new again.

Deja Blues owes their success to the one-two punch of Wanda Cobb and Gordon Bulcock. Wanda is a major presence on stage; audiences love it when this Lady Sings the Blues". Once Wandas voice is heard, theres little doubt that her career will take her into the recording studio and the ranks of world-renowned blues singers. Yes, shes that good and that special. A talent such as hers cant be contained.

Wandas slicing solos mesh easily with the skilled licks of Bulcocks guitar. Gordon Bulcock on guitar is a truly gifted lead performer. Rather than simply replicating the blues riffs he's heard on records, Bulcock incorporates the emotion of the original performances into his own style of playing, thus expanding the vocabulary of blues guitar. He tirelessly creates his own unique fusion of passionate, guitar-powered music, creatively blending potent rock 'n roll with blues-driven elements. He has an uncanny ability to find the happy medium between what people like to hear and the artist likes to play. Bulcock's sublime accompaniment and solos are the perfect counterpoint to Wanda's vocals.

Formed in November 2001, Deja Blues performs 120+ shows per year throughout Northern Nevada and California. Deja Blues' awards and accolades include being voted Best Stage Act" at the Nevada State Fair, and Best Band" in Carson Citys Taste of Downtown competition. The group is still something of a secret in mainstream terms, but that is changing fast, based on their award- winning performances and legions of fans.
