High School Boxers Reunite To Score Knockout R&B Hits
Alonzo Russell, an actor who recently appeared on "24", "The Shield" and "Monk", reunites with his Gary, Indiana high school boxing teammate, Arthur Richardson. Russell is a singer, Richardson a budding songwriter. They're making a CD, and the first two tracks are generating Internet heat.
(PRWEB) April 8, 2004 -- At Al Medina's Coffee Hut in Los Angeles' South Central neighborhood, Alonzo Russell is working with his backup singers, running them through the "ooohs" they'll be crooning while he sings his underground hit "Break Me Off". The song is a classic R&B tune out of the 1970's, instantly catchy and with what the music industry calls a "hook" -- a super-catchy melody that listeners can't get out of their heads.
The words and music are by Arthur Richardson. Just weeks before, Russell and Richardson had only distant memories of each other. They grew up in Gary, Indiana, and got to know each other on the high school boxing team. Now, some 20 years later, with Russell an actor appearing on the hottest shows -- "24", "The Shield" and "Monk" -- and with Richardson a songwriter prowling Los Angeles with hits-to-be in his pocket, the two run into each other at church.
Before the week was out, they were in a studio laying down the tracks. Two of them were released on the Internet. Now they're Gen Z smashes on the peer-to-peer networks.
Alonzo Russell will be singing the songs Saturday night, April 10, 2004, at Al Medina's Coffee Hut on Jefferson and 7th Avenue.
