Fluxing- an exhibition of new work by Lucy Browne, James o`Dubhuidhir, and Andrew Farley At Centrespace, Bristol, from 24th April to 29th April 2004

Fluxing is an exhibition of work from three Bristol based artists, linked by the common themes of transformation and change. The work ranges from romantic landscapes through to expressive figuration, incorporating found materials along the way.

(PRWEB) April 8, 2004 -- James o`Dubhuidhir pursues a fascination with the elemental forces of nature. 'I am drawn to the sublime in the landscape of the British Isles, the awesome power of the sea, the friction between this and the coast.

From his eyrie-like studio on the top floor of Jamaica Street Artists James has been drawing from observations made over several visits to the west coast of Scotland, North Cornwall, and Wales.

'I have been making a series of paintings that set out to parallel the energetic coastal landscape by managing accident in the process of making a painting. The directness of working this way, responding to happenstance, allows the resulting images to retain dynamism and nuance that are lost in conventional painting.

Andrew Farleys work is concerned with transformation, myth and the inner meaning of the image. He will be exhibiting paintings in encaustic (a mixture of beeswax, resin and pigment) alongside assemblages in driftwood and shrapnel. 'Encaustic is a unique medium in that it allows me to make a painting by rapidly fusing layers of paint and then scraping or cutting these away. The final picture has a texture and tonal variation that comes about as much by chance as by intention

Lucy Browne paints in acrylic on a variety of materials, often working on found pieces of wood, which are assembled into the completed work. Her figures occupy a brightly coloured abstract space, resulting in flowing and tightly woven compositions.

'The characters in my work arent real people, but correspond to emotional states. Im interested in conveying an atmosphere or a sense of a narrative. Much of my work arises from visions or dreams
