(PRWEB) April 8, 2004 -- The Houston Minority Business Council hosts an upcoming networking seminar Wednesday, April 7, 2004 at the Councils headquarters located at 6671 Southwest Freeway, Houston, TX. Motivational speaker Brian Hilliard of Agito Consulting will headline the two-hour event. The focus of the seminar is to help attendees turn the professional contacts they make into the connections they need through networking tips and techniques obtained through Mr. Hilliards experience as a motivational speaker.
This is the first collaboration between the Houston Minority Business Council and Agito Consulting. Attendees are expected to obtain tips on how to effectively network and learn how critical networking is to individual success. Attendees will also walk away with networking tips applicable to any given situation.
Sources agree that networking is the primary opportunity opener. According to a 2001 survey conducted by the Society for Human Resources Management and CareerJournal.com, networking is the most popular way to find jobs or employees as 95% of both human resource professionals and job seekers find opportunities through networking. An article published on the online version of the Wall Street Journal (www.wsj.com) reported that networking proved to be a more effective job-hunting tool than using a headhunter.
Networking is the subject of Mr. Hilliards book, Networking Like a Pro!, which goes beyond working the room (common in traditional networking settings), and instead focuses on how to make a lasting impression in the minds of others in order to stand out from the competition. Mr. Hilliard is currently completing a book tour with Waldenbooks in the Atlanta metro-area and can be found at Waldenbooks in the Mall of Georgia from 12pm to 3pm on Saturday, April 10, 2004.
Along with touring, Mr. Hilliards work has appeared in various media outlets, including Atlantas Power of Business, the Roswell Neighbor Newspaper, the Martha Zoller Morning Show and most recently in the March edition of Black Enterprise magazine.
