YR Media Backs Weed to Unveil First Legitimate Second Hand Music File Market
YR Media back legitimate second hand music file sharing market. File sharers invited into the business of music.
(PRWEB) April 9, 2004 -- MOBILE marketing specialists YR Media today announced a deal backing a revolutionary solution to the ongoing challenge of music piracy and peer to peer file sharing.
The YR Media-backed Weed encoding system allows music fans to legitimately share music files with each other and get paid for doing so.
YR Media will be converting thousands of major music files over the next few weeks enabling a legitimate 'market of downloadable music.
The deal between the American file sharing company and Bristol based music marketing experts will kick off a legitimate second hand market in music files where the seller and the artist both get a cut of the sales.
Seth Jackson, marketing director at YR Media, commented:
Weve now take a lead in the UK by setting up a deal to create a legitimate market for sharing downloadable music files. We are in discussion with a large amount of the independent music industry and are confident that this is the first legitimate open market for music files."
Weed works as a market allowing people to download and sell on files whilst keeping a share of the profit from each sale.
Seth added: We think Weed is a great idea and a very sensible and positive step forward for the industry. Weed invites fans to become an actual part of the music business and to understand that it is just that; a business. Making the fans the virtual record shops, distributors and ultimately A&R allows them to get involved and de-incentivises them from sharing illegal copies. We will be encouraging people to share their Weed files -- encouraging them to do so responsibly and ensuring that the artist gets a fair reward too.
For this reason, weve put our technological muscle and extensive music industry contacts to make this work for the UK market."
The first three labels to sign up are Crambo, Seriously Groovy Music, who are Weedifying their entire back catalogue, and Soma Records. YR Media is also currently offering free Weed encoding to any label or artist who wish to participate to stimulate the market in shared music files.
The first UK band to be Weedified is 'The Watershed, based in Glasgow. The Weed file can be downloaded from: http://www.thewatershed.net/weedshare.htm
