Tres Chicas -- Band Featuring Caitlin Cary, Tonya Lamm and Lynn Blakey -- Readies Debut CD

CD titled Sweetwate ris due to hit the streets on June 29 on Yep Roc Records

RALEIGH, NC (PRWEB) April 9, 2004 --- Tres Chicas, the part-time project of three of North Carolinas most critically acclaimed recording artists -- Lynn Blakey, Caitlin Cary and Tonya Lamm with drummer Skillet Gilmore -- have finished their debut album. The CD, titled Sweetwater, will be released on Yep Roc Records on June 29.

Producer was American alt-rock MVP Chris Stamey, who himself will release an album on Yep Roc in June.

This complex and varied album contains original songs written by Blakey, Cary and Lamm, along with a few choice covers: George Jones Take The Devil Out Of Me," , Lucinda Williams Am I Too Blue,"and Loretta Lynns Deep As Your Pocket." While Tres Chicas harmonies have been described as angelic, their songs push into edgy territory and listeners will discover much emotion and angst woven into seemingly soft fabric of their sound.

The ladies of Tres Chicas hail from a variety of North Carolina bands. Caitlin Cary was a charter member of Whiskeytown along with Ryan Adams. Since the bands demise, she has recorded an EP (Waltzie, 2000) and two critically hailed albums (While You Werent Looking, 2002 and Im Staying Out, 2003.) She has toured the U.S. and abroad with her four-piece band.

Tonya Lamm was a founding member of Hazeldine, whose dreamy, desert-inflected album How Bees Fly captured the hearts of European fans and critics alike. The victims of a label merger/ acquisition, Hazeldine released three more acclaimed albums and recently called it quits. Lamms vocals have appeared on recordings by Alejandro Escovedo, James Iha and Neal Casal.

Lynn Blakey is a veteran of two legendary Southern alt bands, Lets Active and Oh-OK. She now fronts Glory Fountain, a rich and textured rock band who in 2002 released their second album, The Beauty of 23 to rave reviews. Blakey is also a famed harmony singer and has performed on records by Velvet Crush and Jeffrey Dean Foster.

Drummer Skillet Gilmore is a veteran of Whiskeytown and is heard on Caitlin Carys first EP and album and currently plays in the band Patty Hurst Shifter.

The trios origins can be traced back to Raleighs now defunct Lakeside Lounge where the club owner billed Blakey, Cary and Lamm as Tres Chicas so he could include them in a newspaper club ad -- and it stuck. The other name he had thought of was PWS (Purty Women Singin), which, fortunately for all concerned, never made it to print. Of course with a handle like Tres Chicas, the members have endured questions like can you play a rhumba?"

Tres Chicas have been busying themselves by performing in the Southeast and plan to tour the U.S. in the remainder of 2004. They also provided harmonies for Alejandro Escovedos recording A Man Under The Influence.

Although a real band in every sense, it may be a few years (or more) until Lynn, Caitlin and Tonya record another Tres Chicas album, so be sure to check out (and enjoy) Sweetwater.
