Funambol Joins the ObjectWeb Consortium
ObjectWeb welcomes Funambol and extends its open-source middleware portfolio with Sync4j, a SyncML-compliant Java platform for mobile application development.
London, UK (PRWEB) April 11, 2004 -- At the Linux User & Developer Expo, Funambol today announced its membership in ObjectWeb, an international consortium promoting the development of open-source middleware.
ObjectWeb is an independent non-profit organization which federates open-source efforts to build the next generation of middleware and provide the foundation for high-quality, business-critical distributed applications. Funambol is the company sponsoring the open-source project Sync4j, a complete platform for mobile application development and management, based on the SyncML standard defined by the Open Mobile Alliance.
"The ObjectWeb consortium is quickly becoming the center of excellence for open source projects in the middleware arena. Thanks to the recent release of version 2.0, Sync4j is now the reference framework for developers of wireless applications. We are glad to become a member of the consortium and to be an active part of its success", said Fabrizio Capobianco, CEO of Funambol.
Sync4j extends ObjectWebs set of open-source solutions for mobile and embedded computing, which also counts a J2ME (Java 2 Micro Edition) version of JORAM -- a message-oriented middleware offering JMS (Java Messaging Service) and Web Services adaptors, and OSCAR -- the reference open-source implementation of the OSGi framework for service gateways.
"Thanks to Funambol support and sponsorship, Sync4j is a platform of choice for business developers working on mobile applications. The wireless market is experiencing an enormous growth and we are thrilled about having Sync4j in our portfolio. We heartily welcome Funambol as a member of our consortium", said Jean-Pierre Laisné, Chairman of ObjectWeb.
