Artists Third CD Sounds Like Neil Young

Paul Rader's third release, Century Home, is more than just a tribute to '70s songwriting styles. It's a tribute to story tellers and a nod to the now extinct "all-acoustic" albums of the past.

Key West, FL (PRWEB) April 13, 2004 --In 1970, the year Paul Rader, solo acoustic performer, was born, Neil Young released After the Gold Rush. Neil couldnt have possibly imagined the effect he would have on the mass of musicians to come. As a young man, when Youngs passionate work had already become a classic, Rader would often lay on his bedroom floor, head-phones blaring out songs like Southern Man and Tell Me Why, dreaming of the day when he, too, would write and record music that moved people.

In 2003, thirty-three years after Youngs benchmark album hit the charts, Paul Raders all-acoustic effort, Century Home", was released. Upon first listen the comparisons between the two artists arent immediately apparent but there becomes no question about the influence that Neil Young has had on Raders songwriting. Living In Cars is the third track and the first to wear the sleeve of the acoustic sound that Young pioneered and he even includes a cover of Youngs Old Man. But, final analysis leads the listener to understand that its the emotion that provides the similarity between Rader and Young and really nothing else.

This CD is shot through with original, emotional, and memorable tunes, many of which have an air of familiarity to them that's due to Raders atypical distinctive and percussive style. As heard on Back From The Spoon, Rader's lyrics are tense and full of lucid observations. The latter song has a strong anti-hard drug message, wrapped up in a lilting, melodic musical package.

Of course, theres more to Century Home" than just being another 70's Style" tribute. More current bands like Counting Crows and Pearl Jam have both paid homage to the same sound and flair on their previous releases - and both with much success! Adam Duritz, lead singer and songwriter for Counting Crows, came closest with Raining in Baltimore from their critically acclaimed debut CD, August and Everything After". One listen to Raders desperate plea for freedom from having to be strong on Dont Feel Like Jesus Today and it seems as though him and Duritz are completing a sort of soul-morphing" as both artists perform with the same vulnerability and passion as an entire U2 concert.

Eddie Vedder, Pearl Jams frontman, singer, and lyricist, also professed his appreciation and respect for the power and energy of this vintage, expressive style of songwriting when he was asked to do the honors of presenting Neil Young with a Lifetime Achievement Award". Vedder joked that Neil seemed intimidated by the body of work he had created up to that point. Century Home" is Paul Raders creation - and one that has become an integral part of who Rader is - not only as a musician, but also as a person.
