Brighton, MA (PRWEB) April 14, 2004 -- QUOSA Inc. (www.quosa.com) announced that the National Cancer Institute (NCI) has purchased an institutional license granting 3,000 of NCIs researchers and grant reviewers access to the QUOSA Information Manager. Available in both PC and Mac OS X versions, this program includes a variety of tools that help researchers harness the scientific literature, effectively bridging" literature searching with subsequent activities. Some of the most popular features for PubMed users include full-article retrieving, organizing, re-accessing, sharing, linking to the users citation manager of choice, and automated PubMed search alerting. Prior to purchasing the institutional license, the NCI evaluated the QUOSA Information Manager on a trial basis over the course of 4 months. The program will be used for information management by those conducting research at NCI, as well as by scientists who oversee the agencys extramural grant programs.

Malcolm MacKenzie, QUOSAs president, noted that the pathway leading to the development of this program was long and challenging." To ensure that the QUOSA Information Manager would be tailor-made to meet the biomedical communitys needs, the company had, over the course of several years, routinely sought suggestions for features and feedback on test versions from scientists working at nearby research institutions. The biomedical researchers enthusiasm for our new approaches to information management grew dramatically after we developed a way for them to rapidly go from viewing PubMed search results listings to obtaining the full-text, and fully searchable, articles," recalled Mr. MacKenzie. QUOSAs user-base is rapidly expanding and includes subscriptions at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston University and Medical School, Brandeis University, Brigham and Womens Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Tufts Medical School, University of California San Diego, University of Pennsylvania, and Whitehead Institute.
