THOUSAND OAKS, CA (PRWEB) April 15, 2004 -- The Conejo Valley, rich with country heritage, will show off its roots during Conejo Valley Days (CVD), April 28 through May 2 at Conejo Creek Park South in Thousand Oaks (23 Freeway at the Janss Road exit). "Spirits Soar in 2004" is this year's theme.

The festival will be filled with games, good food and an assortment of carnival rides for all ages. The five-day event will feature a Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association-sanctioned rodeo. Rodeo times are: Saturday, May 1, 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 2, 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. CVD also features continuous live entertainment and an authentic western pit barbecue. A huge white tent, known as "CVD Marketplace," will contain dozens of booths filled with crafts, western gear, sweets and product demonstrations and displays.

Headlining this year's entertainment is the Gregg Rolie Band, set for Saturday, May 1 at 8:30 p.m. on the CVD main stage. Rolie is the original voice and founding member of Santana and Journey. He lead vocal duties can be heard on Santana's "Black Magic Woman, "Oye Como Va," "Evil Ways" and Journey's "Anytime" and "Just the Same Way." The Gregg Rolie Band includes fellow original Santana members Michael Carabello and Alphonso Johnson along with other veteran players Ron Wilkso, Wally Minko, Kurt Griffey and Adrian Areas. Admission to the concert is free to all fairgoers. "The concert is rock and roll at it's best," says Kevin Rock, CVD entertainment chair.

On Thursday, April 30, The Lost Canyon Rangers will play classics by Roy Rogers, Gene Autry and Hopalong Cassidy. The concert begins at 6:30 p.m. Taking the stage at 8:30 p.m. is the Rich Holmstrom Band. The band is a mix of blues and modern recording techniques.

"Conejo Valley Days is in its 48th year," says Ken Calcut, 2004 CVD general chair. "While the Conejo Valley has grown tremendously over the decades, Conejo Valley Days is a reminder that we're still a community with a friendly, small town spirit."

Other activities during CVD include the Badgeroo contest on April 28 at 7:00 p.m. Every year a new badge featuring the CVD theme is created. Contestants pit their badge collections against those of others, many whom have been collecting badges since the tradition began in 1964. For the second year in a row, Pam O'Gorman designed the badge for this year's festival.

CVD hours are Wednesday and Thursday, April 28 and 29 from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Friday, April 30, 5:00 p.m. to midnight, Saturday, May 1, noon to midnight and Sunday, May 2, noon to 8:00 p.m. General admission is $6 for adults, $5 for students/seniors, $3 for children ages six through 12. Children under age six are free. April 28 and 29 are family fun nights. On these nights, for $17 plus admission, fair-goers have unlimited use of rides.

"Conejo Valley Days wouldn't be possible without the help of more than 20 non-profit organizations and thousands of volunteers," says Calcut. "They not only help with the behind scenes work that starts six months before the festival, but they also man the food and game booths during CVD to raise funds that help them operate throughout the year. We ask that everyone who comes to Conejo Valley Days support these groups. Their booths are located on the midway. Whether you eat a hamburger at the YMCA booth or try your hand at the Boy Scouts' game booth, you're helping your community."

An ATM will be on site throughout the event. For more information about Conejo Valley Days, contact the CVD hotline, 805-371-8730 or check the CVD website: www.conejovalleydays.com.
