Junior Achievement Volunteers Mean Business During National Volunteer Week
Junior Achievement thanks school volunteers and trains new volunteers during national volunteer week.
Racine, WI (PRWEB) April 15, 2004 -- April 18-24 is National Volunteer Week. During this week, business people throughout Racine will be recognized as they contribute their time and help students better understand business and the world of work as Junior Achievement volunteers.
Junior Achievement partners with many local businesses in the Racine community. All Saints Healthcare and Johnson Bank are recent additions to the JA family. These local businesses provide JAs 200+ volunteers, as well as financial and in-kind support for JAs mission.
JA volunteers serve to teach young people about business, economics and the free enterprise system. For example, third grade students learn how to plan a city as part of Junior Achievements Our City program, and high school students learn basic concepts of interpersonal communication and personal presentation in Success Skills. Meg Meyer, business coach and Program Manager of Junior Achievement, says, Seeing the quietest student come up to me at the end of class and start a conversation about their future and how much they got out of the class makes it all worth it for me."
Mike Batten, CEO of Twin Disc and COB of Junior Achievement in Racine, adds, Please consider joining the JA team. We come from all walks of life, but we share one thing in common – we are dedicated to providing our young people the skills and competencies they will need to be solid citizens of the future."
About Local Racine Involvement
The Racine District of Junior Achievement of Wisconsin will reach 6,000 – 8,000 students in public, private and parochial schools. Junior Achievement volunteers are community members from all backgrounds including executives, parents, college students, scientists, administrative staff, for example. JA is continually seeking out and training new volunteers. Volunteers are then partnered with a class, and given a kit of pre-planned lessons and activities that make it fun for the students to learn, and easy for the volunteers to present. For more information call Meg Meyer at 262-638-4000 ext. 5352 or email manager1@jaracine.org.
