Surprising Answers Caught on Camera

Here were everyday people, some had money, and some were homeless. And when asked about what made them happy, they said their children, waking up in the morning, another breath of air, just being alive. (PRWEB) April 16, 2004 --Here were everyday people, some had money, and some were homeless. And when asked about what made them happy, they said their children, waking up in the morning, another breath of air, just being alive. These were some of the more general answers that were captured on film in One Happy Movie, the feature documentary about happiness. It was about the simplest things for some and the more intricate for others," states creator Aaron Mighty.

During production Mighty knew they had something unique when Donald Gotelli, a retired professional in his 60s interviewed in Washington, DC stated The time that I felt the most aesthetically happy, the most supreme sense of joy... was under the influence of a psychedelic." But they knew they had something special when Austin Rutledge, a University of Tennessee student, said I was the happiest when I gave my life to the lord. He took away my sins. He saved me."

In Abingdon, VA newspaper publisher Martha Weisfeld would rant You know the TV has done something to our social skills. Everybodys gotten fat and stays home on the couch and eats their potato chips and drinks their beer and wonders whats wrong with us all." Then there was the touching but humorous response by Dee Dee Aristedes Gerachis, a homeless man in Martinsburg, WV, Falling in love is one of the greatest experiences of your life if you survive it. Its the greatest man created force around. Its cost me a lot of money."

Even funnier was Douglas Burns, late 30s of South Carolina, seriously stating Thats got to be when I divorced my wife." And Bob Waite, late 60s in Princeton, NJ proudly stated My kids being grown and gone away makes me happy." Unfortunately, all responses would not be as happy as these, as Vietnam veteran Henry DeCuin described happiness as None of this [explicit]. When Im dead, then Im happy."

The old stating drugs, the young stating God, the homeless having faith, these are just a few of the surprising answers from the nearly 400 people the filmmakers met. The concept and originality is what makes One Happy Movie innovative, but it is the wide range and unusually set of characters and their responses that make this film so amazing. Maybe one day well all surprise ourselves with the answer to What makes you happy?"
