Spectators Welcome To All Oregon Region SCCA Races at P.I.R.
New Insurance Change Opens Up Previously Restricted Events
Portland, OR (PRWEB) April 17, 2004 --For the first time Northwest sports fans can attend all Oregon Region Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) races at Portland International Raceway. Previously, the necessary spectator insurance was carried on only select events, like the traditional Rose Cup races each June. The Rose Cup remains one of the signature events in amateur racing in America and attracts drivers from throughout the western states.
This change in spectating status allows the organization to advertise and promote its amateur racing events.
This is a significant step in supporting our membership and promoting their individual accomplishments by providing greater recognition sponsorship opportunities," explained Regional Executive Holly Remington. In addition, it will further our goal of increased exposure to our sport" she said.
We want Northwest motorsports enthusiasts to enjoy Portland International Raceway and see what the Sports Car Club of America has to offer," she added.
"The Sports Car Club of America's decision to welcome spectators to their events is a great change, for the SCCA, the team sponsors and the many fans who will now get a chance to see great sports car racing at Portland International Raceway" said, Mark Wigginton Track Manager of Portland International Raceway.
The 2004 SCCA race season at PIR starts this weekend with the first of seven regional championship race weekends, with two events qualifying for national status being held in May and June.
