Cancer survivor returns as vendor to Gildas Club annual benefit shopping spree

Gilda's Club Club Northern New Jersey to host fundraiser with over 20 professional vendors

HACKENSACK, NJ (PRWEB) April 19, 2004 --The ultimate shopping experience returns on Sunday, May 2, 2004 to Gildas Club Northern New Jersey, as part of ongoing efforts to raise funds for the organization. The clubhouse in Hackensack serves the entire region of Northern New Jersey as well as Rockland County in New York, and provides emotional and social support for those whose lives are touched by cancer.

The community-at-large is invited to help in the fight against cancer by visiting Gildas Club through the signature red door (just behind the Sears and Target department stores), to enjoy boutique shopping for a good cause.

I interview professional vendors all year round," said Englewood resident Sherri Goldman who is now in her second year as event chair. I found that it is important to hold the event at the clubhouse because it also provides an opportunity for visitors to tour the clubhouse. When people see the beautiful facilities of the clubhouse they instantly understand the importance of Gildas Club to the community and to people living with cancer."

Goldman is not the only person enthusiastic about the shopping spree. When I signed up last year to be a vendor at the Gildas Club shopping spree," said Pam Robins, owner of Crystals & Beads, I did not know that just a few weeks later I would be diagnosed with colon cancer.
Due to early detection," noted Robins, I am still here today. And thanks to the support that followed by being a member of Gildas Club, I am thrilled to participate again in this years fundraiser."

Items for sale at the fundraiser will include leather goods, jewelry, sweaters, handbags, childrens clothing, toys, home accessories and fine stationery. Door prizes will be given throughout the day, including a Baume & Mercier watch valued at approximately $1,500.

According to the Cancer Institute of New Jersey, each year over 40,000 New Jersey residents are diagnosed with cancer and over 18,000 New Jerseyeans die from cancer.

Gildas Club Northern New Jersey is a gathering place where men, women and children living with all types of cancer, as well as their family and friends, can build social and emotional support as an essential complement to medical care. Free-of-charge and nonprofit, Gildas Club offers support and networking groups, lectures and social activities in a non-residential, home-like environment. Gildas Club also has a special program for children and teens called Noogieland.
