Austin, TX (PRWEB) April 20, 2004 --- Dr. Gregory Nikolaidis of Westlake Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery is one of only a few select physicians in Texas chosen to use Sculptra, a product created by Dermik Laboratories. Already commonly used throughout Europe, Sculptra is known as the liquid facelift." Patients are able to safely and non-surgically receive the benefits of traditional facelifts through the products effect of plumping up the skin.

During the Sculptra procedure, a patient is numbed with topical numbing cream and given a series of injections in the desired area. The material used in Sculptra is lactic acid, the substance that is naturally produced by muscles during exercise. This acid stimulates the skin to produce more collagen, thus producing a plumping effect.

Dr. Nikolaidis believes that this product will transform the field of cosmetic surgery." Unlike other fillers, such as Restylane and Cosmoplast, which last only a few months, Sculptra causes the body to stimulate its own collagen. This results in a much longer-lasting effect, generally two to three years. Side effects of the procedure are minimal, other than short-term swelling and redness.

Dr. Nikolaidis was invited by Dermik Laboratories to attend a training session on Sculptra in Chicago on April 17 and 18, and is scheduled to receive additional training in Frankfurt, Germany in June. He will offer the product at his practice, Westlake Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery, in Austin upon its United States release in July 2004.

Gregory Nikolaidis, M.D. received his Dermatology specialty training at the University of California, San Diego, after graduating at the top of his class with Honors in the Basic Sciences from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Dr. Nikolaidis opened Westlake Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery in 2002, devoting his practice to cutting-edge, minimally invasive aesthetic procedures. He has been a leader in other recent break-through cosmetic surgery techniques, including Feather-Lift and ThermaLift.
