Reason trumps emotion in new book
Emotional Traps" challenges readers to use logic in daily decisions
(PRWEB) April 21, 2004 -- The recently released book by Dr. Raymond J. Hill, Emotional Traps" challenges the modern emphasis on emotions over reason. Dr. Hill, a clinical psychologist, combines essay and story to warn that this misplaced emphasis leads to self-centered and destructive behavior. He begins by sorting out the differences between emotional and logical thinking and describes the search for truth as our ultimate objective.
Specifically, he addresses the emotional traps of blind ideology, anger, depression, anxiety/fear, pride, arrogance, and evil. He also talks about overcoming prejudice and the negative influence of money, power and fame. Hill devotes separate chapters to avoiding emotional thinking in government and God.
He argues that by applying just a little logic, everyone can sort out truth from fiction in their own lives and live a bit better. In the concluding chapter, he shows just how this works when applied to 10 real life scenarios illustrating moral quandaries.
Dr. Steven Stockdale, licensed clinical psychologist, says, I found 'Emotional Traps to be very readable and part II especially helpful, as it lays out ways to overcome multiple emotional traps .... Each chapter addresses specifics and self-talk to bring that balance back into play between our logic and our emotions."
Dr. Raymond J. Hill was born and raised in the Bronx, N.Y. He began his professional career as a Catholic priest and served in that capacity for 20 years as an Air Force Chaplain. On retiring from the Air Force and the active priesthood, he received a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Florida. His background has led him to combine logic, philosophy and psychology in his clinical practice based in Colorado Springs, Colo. He has two children and claims, among his other talents, to be a really bad pilot.
Emotional Traps" is available through Bookmasters and Dr. Hills Web site at www.EmotionalTraps.com. It will be on Amazon.com soon.
