Robot Stories To Open in Austin on May 7th: Director Greg Pak to Attend May 6th Austin Film Society Screening

The Austin Film Society (AFS) announced today that Greg Pak, a filmmaker funded by AFSs Texas Filmmakers Production Fund (TFPF) in 1997, will attend an Austin Film Society screening of ROBOT STORIES on May 6th at 7pm at Austins Regal Arbor Cinema. Tickets for the event are available through AFS at 512/322.0145 and are $6 for AFS members and $8 for the general public. The event will include a Q&A with Greg Pak and admission to a film-networking reception at Manuels following the screening. ROBOT STORIES, co-distributed by Pak Film and Shotwell Media, opens in Austin on Friday, May 7th at the Regal Arbor Cinema.

Greg is one of the first TFPF recipients to receive national theatrical distribution," says AFS Executive Director, Rebecca Campbell, it is gratifying to see that our grant program does make a difference - for filmmakers and for film."

ROBOT STORIES, promoted as science fiction from the heart," follows four story lines that examine the connections between technology and humanity. More information on ROBOT STORIES is available at www.robotstories.net.

Among the panelists that awarded Greg Pak the grant for his short film MOUSE in 1997 are Spike Mike Reloaded author John Pierson and EVERYDAY PEOPLE director Jim McKay. Filmmakers who also received TFPF grants in 1997 include: Bryan Poyser (Poysers feature film DEAR PILLOW premiered at the 2004 Slamdance Film Festival), Kyle Henry (Henry is an acclaimed editor who recently finished shooting his first feature ROOM), David and Nathan Zellner (the Zellners short THE VIRILE MAN played at the 2004 Slamdance Film Festival) and Don Howard (Howards feature NUCLEAR FAMILY premiered at the 2004 South By Southwest Film Festival).

The Texas Film Hall of Fame Awards, AFSs annual fundraiser held on March 12th that, among others, honored Texas natives Ethan Hawke, Forest Whitaker and Judith Ivey, raised over $140,000 for AFSs projects and programs. The success of the event has enabled AFS to increase the amount of money that TFPF will award this year from $65,000 to $75,000.
