National Scrapbooking Day Celebrates Family Past

National Scrapbooking Day to be celebrated on May 1, 2004.

Carlsbad, CA (PRWEB) April 24, 2004 ---Start May by celebrating friends and family: start scrapping. Saturday, May 1st is National Scrapbooking Day. This day is dedicated to the joys of the hottest new hobby in the crafts industry, scrapbooking.

Scrapbooking combines family history and contemporary crafts in a fun and interesting way, bringing together adults and children alike," said Fran Saperstein, Publisher of A-Z Magazines and Scrapbooking.com Magazine. Scrapbooking continues to be the fastest-growing hobby in the crafts industry, with over 21% of all American households scrapbooking an average of 20 hours each month."

Women start to scrapbook for different reasons: memorializing a family member; celebrating the birth of a new child; journaling a time of change; celebrating a family milestone. No matter the reason, scrapbookers have one thing in common: the goal of preserving their memories to share them with future family members.

Though photographs represent the memories, scrapbookers take it a step further, creating a craft that helps to tell the story. Organizing photographs, paper, stickers and embellishments into a pleasing format called a layout, Srapbookers around the country create meaningful books for their families to treasure.

On National Scrapbooking Day, many of the nations 4,200+ scrapbooking specialty stores help to celegrate scrapbooking: there are special sales, all day scrapbooking parties (called crops) and classes. All these events are focused not only on the photographs, but also on sharing techniques and time with family and friends.

Scrapbooking.com Magazine supports retailers and consumers with monthly articles, projects, and free weekly newsletters that focus on industry trends and new products. Over 100 new projects are available each month, with over 40 months of past articles in the online live archives. Scrapbooking.com Magazine maintains a calendar of events to support retailers and consumers throughout the nation.
