(PRWEB) April 26, 2004 --Powerful paintings by artist/architect Amanda Williams are featured in a one-person show that bring emotion to life at San Franciscos SOULARCH Gallery from May 7 to June 5, 2004.

Her recent exhibition as an invited architect, in harlemworld: Metropolis as Metaphor, which closed April 4 at The Studio Museum in Harlem, New York, NY, gave us a sense of what she is about as an architect. Her onsite installation in harlemworld as an architectural contribution for Harlems changing landscape was specific and structural. Her message to inspire Harlem ...to be its own self, no longer the representative of all that is Black..." was highly aesthetic and deeply personal.

Her paintings too, are deeply personal. They stray from architecture in form and presentation, but not in rigor or resolve. Her voice, which speaks of identity, memory and attitude, is presented in loud, expressive color, sketches, and collage. Her love of painting is visceral.

Amanda Williams is passionate about developing strategies that can use art and architecture as catalysts for economic, community and cultural revitalization of urban neighborhoods. In this exhibition, her commitment to change is evidenced by her commitment to herself as a painter. Her drive to create concentrates on making paintings that evoke an emotional response from the viewer: to urge one to examine his/her own ethnicity, identity and role in his/her community. Im successful when you see your own story in my work..." says Williams.
