Changes in the UCC Law Enables a Notary Public to Earn a Full-Time Income Working from Their Home

Since changes in the UCC law have eliminated the two witness signature requirement on mortgage documents, the door is now open for millions of notaries across the U.S. to earn a full-time income working as notary signing agents.

(PRWEB) April 29, 2004 -- Prior to 2001, the purchase or refinance of residential property required two witness signatures on mortgage documents to close the loan. However, recent changes in the UCC laws eliminated this requirement and allowed the notary public to serve in place of the required witnesses. This opened the doors for millions of notaries across the United States to work directly as a freelancer for mortgage, title and signing companies and earn a full-time income working from their home as a notary signing agent.

The process is relatively simple. After applying for and obtaining a notary public commission, the notary signs up with any of the thousands of mortgage, title and signing companies seeking freelance notaries. When the company needs to close a loan in the notarys area, they will contact the notary, negotiate a fee (usually $50 to $125), send the mortgage documents to the notary and the notary drives to the borrower(s) home to obtain signatures and notarize the documents. The documents are returned to the lender and the notary is mailed a check for his or her services when the loan closes.

With the current jobless rate climbing, many professionals who are temporarily unemployed are discovering the notary signing agent field to be an excellent way to supplement or even replace their current income.
