May 2 -- 8 National Teacher Appreciation Week

Local Events Honor Teachers and Feature New Author

Houston, TX (PRWEB) April 29, 2004 -- May 2 -- 8: Teachers in Houston and in communities across the nation will be in the spotlight during the first week of May as students, parents, school administrators, and the general public honor teachers for their dedication and hard work. Few other professionals touch as many people as teachers do. National Teacher Day is a good time to learn about the contributions educators make to our community everyday. Can you remember a teacher who had an influence on your life? Remember when you looked up to them as your hero?

The Spiral Bridge" is the story of such a school teacher - in the depression era - a college student who doesn't realize what she is stepping into when she accepts an emergency teaching position in a southern Minnesota country (one room) school at the end of her junior year. Al Franzmeier, retired minister and author, will introduce his recently published book at three different locations honoring teachers during May 2-8 -- designated Teacher Appreciation Week by the National Education Association.

"A touch of 'Little House on the Prairie' -- for grown ups," says Kristl V. Franklin, author and award winning script writer from The Woodlands, Texas.

"Remember When" is the theme of these events as we reflect back to the time when the teacher was the center of the community and involved in the lives of the students. Please join us at one of the three upcoming events as we "give back" to our local teachers and recognize them for their outstanding work in opening children's minds to new ideas, serving as excellent mentors, and helping create exemplary citizens.

All teachers who attend will receive a certificate of appreciation to demonstrate our recognition of the contribution they make each day to the future of our country.
