Skokie Library Patrons Celebrate Local Author

Patrons of Chicago's Skokie Public Library have created a surge in popularity for the Top Ten Recommended Book by one of their own.

SKOKIE, IL (PRWEB) May 1, 2004 --Since adding the novel "My Fractured Life" to its catalogue in February, waiting list demand from patrons has been so high that the Skokie Public Library has yet to see the book on its general circulation shelves.

A waiting list has existed for the book at the library every day for over two months since it was acquired.

The popularity of "My Fractured Life" with Skokie library patrons shows how the community embraces its local arts culture. The novel, a Top Ten Recommended Book by Amazon.com, is written by Illinois favorite son and Skokie resident Rikki Lee Travolta.

Slated for adaptation into film by Port Magee Pictures, "My Fractured Life" has been compared in reviews to the bestsellers "Da Vinci Code" by Dan Brown, "Secret Life of Bees" by Sue Monk Kidd, "Running With Scissors" by Augusten Burroughs, and "Postcards From the Edge" by actress Carrie Fisher.

Indiana's Tri-State Today identified "My Fractured Life" as one of the holiday season's high demand gift purchases, comparable to the craze for Cabbage Patch Kids in 1983, Tickle-Me Elmo in 1996, and Michael Jordan signature shoes throughout the 1980s.

Travolta is best known for his work as an actor and best selling recording artist. His film and television credits include Edtv with Ron Howard, Twilight Serenade, Nash Bridges, and the superhero anthology Nightman.

The actor originally acquired a taste for Chicago as the first celebrity guest star in Tony n' Tina's Wedding, revitalizing the franchise and making it the longest running stage comedy in history.

Travolta moved to Skokie with his wife Sonia and daughter Jessica earlier this year.

Patrons can request "My Fractured Life" at the Skokie Public Library, 5215 Oakton Street; call (847) 673-2675; or visit on the Internet at skokielibrary.org.
