Coaching - It's not just for sports anymore

A new profession is exploding within the consulting industry. Life Coaching is a one-on-one program that is changing how people think, work, live, and plan for their future.

(PRWEB) May 1, 2004 --What is COACHING?

The term coach" is generally associated with sports. Sports coaches are people who physically, mentally, and emotionally prepare their athletes for competition. Even the best athletes have coaches and know how important their coach is to their success. Coaches arent recognized for their ability to play the game, so to say. Their success comes from their ability to create and maintain a high level of performance from their athletes.

The relatively new profession of Life Coaching is exploding within the consulting industry. The goal of Life Coaching is to help a motivated individual achieve the results they are looking for. Unlike therapy, which focuses on negative habits and feelings, and past events, coaching focuses on goal achievement, individual development, and total life improvement. A coach acts as a catalyst in their clients life. They provide the force that causes a positive change. By empowering their clients to make positive changes in their life, coaches help their clients improve their overall attitude, productivity, and quality of life.

Coaching helps an individual create and implement a plan for their life. Clients learn how to:
·   gather, manage, and effectively use their resources
·   clear their life of negative, energy draining habits, people, and clutter
·   identify and resolve conflicts, barriers, and set-backs (both internal and external, real and perceived)
·   become more organized
·   find new opportunities for change and growth
·   identify the real issues and values that drive their action, thus learning what they REALLY want out of life
·   reduce their stress level by taking control of each aspect of their life
·   develop a system of priorities that aligns with their major purpose
·   maintain a system of accountability
·   make more informed decisions
·   become action and goal-oriented, and develop a sense of urgency for their priorities

Coaches also help their clients emotionally by instilling a can-do attitude, promoting a healthy self-esteem, and working with them in a confidential and supportive environment. A coach believes in their client, even before the client believes in his or herself, and makes each task a learning opportunity. A coach challenges their clients to go beyond what they would normally do, and keeps them on track and focused.

Coaching is very popular among independent and upper management professionals but anyone can benefit from it. Time and distance is no longer a constraint for coaches. The telephone, email, and chat programs have all become acceptable means of communication between coaches and their clients.

Now, you may be wondering, cant an individual do all this by themselves? Technically, yes, they can. There are thousands of self-improvement books, trainings, and tools available today. However, this isolates the individual. Materials can only get so specific and still serve the many needs of their readers. Books dont provide feedback or tell you what to do to make a change. Tools developed five years ago dont always work for todays problems. A coach is dedicated to their profession and clients, and will never let their client work through a situation alone. Clients know that no matter what the circumstances, they can always count on the support and knowledge of their coach. You wont get that type of relationship just from reading books.
