Vexation of Spirit: A Collection of Poetry.
New Book of Poetry Opens Closet to Man's Life
In these modern times, life can be confusing, and many people are turning toward the heavens for guidance. Gerald W. Masters looks to God for help in tough situations, and he delivers a collection of inspired poetry in his new book, Vexation of Spirit: A Collection of Poetry (now available through AuthorHouse), which addresses the facets of this complex modern world.
HURST, TX (PRWEB) May 2, 2004 --"Vexation of Spirit is a God-inspired collection of poetry that brings my personal life out of the closet and makes it public knowledge. Realizing that, I boldly speak in the name of the Lord, in whom I have access with confidence, by my faith in him," Masters says.
His book uncovers the wealth of personal experiences that have befallen the author over the years. In Vexation of Spirit, he expounds on the discovery of peace and comfort in his spirituality and love for God. He discusses the beauty, joys and pains of love, while grappling with the "ever-present frustration of coping with human sexuality." His autobiographical poems serve as a release for Masters and provide a springboard for contemplation and discussion among readers.
"It is my hope that (the book) will encourage anyone dealing with his or her own sexuality. I further hope that others will be inspired to think, to write and to live fully developed lives. I especially would like to appeal to my fellow Christian believers, admonishing you to remember that we all came from somewhere," he says.
His poems examine raw emotions in relation to faith and spirituality and deal with the desires of the flesh or the hurts and pangs of love. He also traverses the world, revealing the mysteries from the simplest moments. In "Whispers: The Beaches of Laguna (Only God and the Angels Can Comprehend)," he ponders the subtle mysteries of nature. " And love lives on,/ Wading in the waters of time,/ As little white bubbles/ Ride pacific waves--/ Waves that only God and the angels can comprehend;/ And the bubbles multiply,/ And the bubbles dissipate,/ Dissipate into time./ Still, the beaches of Laguna softly call my name."
Vexation of Spirit is a heartfelt, inspirational poetic exploration into one man' s life and faith.
Masters describes himself as a Christian African-American male who has a deep love for poetry. He has won a number of awards for his poetry, including second place finish in the 1976 Kansas City, Kan., Bicentennial Writing Competition. He attended DeVry Institute of Technology and enjoys computers, travel and chess. Vexation of Spirit is his first book.
