Unwanted Feline Pregnancies Down While Students Proliferate; Pima Medical Institutes Veterinarian Assistant Program Adds Additional Morning Class

Seattle, WA -- The same woman who has been instrumental in a dramatic decline in feral cat pregnancies can also take partial responsibility for a significant increase in the student population for Pima Medical Institutes popular Veterinarian Assistant Program, 1627 Eastlake Avenue East in Seattle.

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) May 4, 2004 --The same woman who has been instrumental in a dramatic decline in feral cat pregnancies can also take partial responsibility for a significant increase in the student population for Pima Medical Institutes popular Veterinarian Assistant Program, 1627 Eastlake Avenue East in Seattle.

Karen Stone, who was the first veterinarian assistant instructor at PMIs Seattle campus 14 years ago is hugely popular with students as well as cats and dogs.

Stone has fostered more than 100 cats and kitten that are sick, old, or too young for immediate adoption for local animal shelters. She gives seminars to potential foster parents at the Seattle Animal Shelter on how to foster kittens and is one of the founding members of the Feral Cat Spay/Neuter project. Some 6,000 cats were altered at PMI during monthly clinics held at the school and now the project has enough financial support to have a free-standing clinic.

For the past 10 years Stone volunteered for PAWS on a cat behavior hotline helping people with cat behavior problems. She is also one of a limited number of people in Washington who is certified in animal massage, and she also performs hydrotherapy and massage to rehabilitate and exercise dogs at Wellsprings, a canine healing center in West Seattle.

Karens love of animals and teaching is amazing," said Susan Dow, campus director for PMI in Seattle. She is a huge reason why our Veterinarian Assistant Program has expanded the way it has."

A second morning class for the Veterinarian Assistant Program started April 19th and calls continue to come in for the next session that is scheduled to begin June 14.

Additional programs at PMI include: Dental Assistant; Medical Assistant; Medical Secretary; Pharmacy Technician; Phlebotomy Technician; Radiologic Technologist and Health Unit Coordinator.

PMI is one of the premiere medical vocational institutes in the western United States. The privately owned, accredited school provides students with a well-rounded education embracing theoretical classroom studies, as well as on-site training at medical facilities that mirror the working environment they will pursue after graduation.

PMI has been serving students since 1972, with campuses in: Albuquerque, NM; Chula Vista, CA, Colorado Springs and Denver, CO; Las Vegas, NV; Tucson and Mesa, AZ, as well as Seattle. Additional information is available by calling 1-888-442-5998 or at http://www.pmi.edu.
