Norwalk, CT (PRWEB) May 4, 2004 -- FairfieldCountyOnline.com today announced the Fairfield County "Best Of The Web Awards" honoring web sites that were built by and serve the best interest of Fairfield County, CT.
FairfieldCountyOnline is accepting entries for the "Best Of The Web Awards" from now until November 1, 2004. Any individual, organization or corporation based in Fairfield County can nominate a site, including their own. On November 15th three finalists will be decided upon and one final winner will be announced at an Awards Reception on November 30th.
"We all use web sites for a variety of reasons," said John Cahill, Publisher of FairfieldCountyOnline.com . "In fact, most of us now depend on them to provide us a wide range of information, entertainment and opportunities. We explore and discover a wealth of information. The Internet can help find a local merchant, product or service, save time, even make us laugh. Just imagine your life without them."
"What few realize is the amount of work that goes into the creation and implementation of a great site that is useful to others," said Cahill. "Worse than that, recognition of this effort is non-existent."
The Best of the Web Awards will recognize Web sites in many categories (see below) and a site may even be entered into multiple categories. Sites entered into multiple categories will be reviewed separately for each category.
Nominations should be sent to info@fairfieldcountyonline.com. Please include the phrase Web Awards in the subject line. The entry should provide information on what is most significant about the site and why it deserves recognition. If a site is being entered in multiple categories, separate information should be provided for each category.
Over the course of the year certain sites submitted may be featured on the FairfieldCountyOnline.com home page, so it is beneficial to submit early.
"If your site is featured on the home page before the November 1 deadline," said Cahill, "it means simply that the editorial staff at FairfieldCountyOnline.com found it to be worthy of sharing."
A panel of local judges will select three finalists and one winner for each category. Currently, the panel consists of professionals from the following areas, Internet Marketing Professor from Fairfield University, marketing professional from Priceline.com and staff from Coastal Fairfield County Convention & Visitor Bureau. The panel will evaluate on six criteria: content, structure and navigation, visual design, functionality, interactivity, overall experience.
"Critiquing or evaluating a web site is not an exact science," saidCahill. "The weight of each criteria varies with the goal of the site. We realize a Web site is much more than the sum of its parts and will leave the difficult decisions to the Panel."
All finalists will be invited to the Best of Web Awards reception scheduled for the November 30th where the winners for each category will be announced. The competition and reception will be co-sponsored by the Coastal Fairfield County Convention & Visitors Bureau.
"We want to support any countywide effort that brings attention to the high quality of work and services being provided in Fairfield County," said Steve Paganelli, Executive Director of the Coastal Fairfield Convention and Visitors Bureau. "We also have put a great deal of effort into bringing our on site (coastalCT.com) to a level that is competitive with any tourism marketing site in the country."
