Dot Com to New Mom: Motherhood is a Miracle
Middle aged woman gives up on motherhood. A chance meeting inspires her to become a speaker/writer instead. This new venture leads to adoption of a baby girl half way around the world.
Winthrop, MA (PRWEB) May 5, 2004 -- Do you believe in angels? Beth O’Malley does. In 1999 she sat next to a young computer geek on an airplane that changed her life. “He was trying to sell me on the Internet but I didn’t own a computer” says O’Malley. Instead he sold her on an idea that ultimately inspired Beth O’Malley to write a book, start a website, and travel 15,000 miles around the world to adopt a baby girl.
O’Malley and her husband had unsuccessfully tried having children. Ms. O’Malley had given up hope on ever becoming a mother and thought she was too old to adopt. She turned her efforts to writing a book and giving workshops instead. After speaking at several adoption conferences, O’Malley’s husband looked at her and said, “look at all these gray heads of hair, if they can adopt so can we.”
In 2002, O’Malley and her husband began the international adoption process. They returned from Kazakhstan (central Asia) last October 2003, proud parents to an eleven-month-old baby girl. Almost fifty-years-old O’Malley says, “Becoming a Mother is nothing short of a miracle. Thank god for that computer guy on the plane.”
O’Malley, a social worker and adoptee, helps adoptive parents create a special tool called an adoption life book. “ In 1999 no one had ever heard of a life book” says O’Malley.” “ I started the first website and wrote the first book.” Five years later, Beth O’Malley has helped thousands of adoptive families worldwide create adoption life books. In her best selling book, LifeBooks: Creating a Treasure for the Adopted Child O’Malley walks the reader through the process step by step.
