Atlanta...Country Club of the South will host its first Charity Tennis Pro Am on Friday, May 21 through Sunday, May 23.

The event expects to raise $30,000 to benefit the clubs Charity Guild, which has raised over $2 million for local charities since its inception in 1988. 48 amateur players (24 men, 24 women) paired with 48 professionals will be competing. The professionals will include Mary Lou Daniels, the 2001 USTA 35+ Womens Indoor Singles Champion, and Jessica Steck, winner of the 1996 Junior U.S. Open.

(PRWEB) May 6, 2004 -- The tournament is close to sold out. The registration fee is $350 per player, and includes a Kick-off Dinner, with dancing, a Calcutta, and silent auction on Friday, May 21st, and brunch/lunch throughout the event. Early sponsors for the Charity Guilds Tennis Pro Am include Expo Design Center, Salomon Smith Barney, Comcast, Ferrari, AutoTrader.com, and Harry Norman, Realtors.

Country Club of the South is located just north of Atlanta, Georgia, in the North Fulton area. The club has an active tennis program for all ages and skill levels, including nearly 100 teams that compete each year in both the Atlanta Lawn Tennis Association (ALTA) and Atlanta Community Tennis Association (ACTA) leagues. Five teaching professionals support the development of beginner to tournament players using advanced teaching techniques. The club also has an award-winning Jack Nicklaus Signature championship golf course and a comprehensive range of sporting and social activities.

The volunteer-run Country Club of the South Charity Guild, which is managing this event, annually selects various charitable organizations to receive grants up to $50,000. Past beneficiaries have included people from all walks of life, including infants with inadequate care, teenagers needing respite from a dangerous home situation, people recovering from alcohol or drug abuse, children needing education support and life skills, and families confronting job loss, illness, or other difficult circumstances.
