Unreal Streaming Technologies group has released a new version of Unreal Media Server - a streaming media server for Windows platforms.

The latest - 2.5 - version of Unreal Media Server comprises a complete software streaming platform solution. It streams AVI, MPEG-1/MPEG-2, WMV, MP3, QuickTime, DivX-XVid, and any other format supported by Microsoft DirectX. Real-time MPEG-4 compression of live media sources: digital cameras, TV-tuners etc.

Media Server:
User authentication: Internal and Session-based authentication.
User logging and ability to integrate custom logging component.
Control of the number of concurrent connections.
SDK for interaction between Media Server and Web applications for user administration and session-based
authentication.

Live Server:
Quality control: audio frames will have higher priority over video in network congestions conditions.
Improved handling of TV-Tuner cards. Ability to choose channels.
Ability to insert custom video transform component into Live Server's graph. SDK for developing such
a component.
Access restrictions for non-friendly Media Servers.

Streaming Media Player and ActiveX control:
Seek function when playing files.
Support for Wndows 98/ME platforms.
HTTP connections will work through Proxy servers.
Contrast & brightness control.
Playing video only if audio hardware or audio decoder is not found.
Support for MPEG-2 files.
