New flirty feminine fashion from the Bayou clothing line "Ezili Freda"
Former New Orleans inhabitant turned Los Angeles fashionista Karla St James debuts her junior contemporary clothing line "Ezili Freda".
(PRWEB) May 11, 2004 --New Orleans inhabitant turned Los Angeles fashionista; Karla St. James has started a yummy line of junior contemporary frocks called Ezili". She describes her signature look as Victorian Voodoo Vixen".
The pieces range from pretty to punky. From girly separates embellished with lace to good girl gone bad Victorian inspired dresses with heavy metal exposed zippers. There are also t --shirts with cute and quirky images such as vintage chorus girls and voodoo symbols and even a lightweight corset.
I got into design by working on my own costumes and outfits to wear out clubbing." says Karla a former ballet dancer and goth rocker.
Shed been sewing for eight years for herself and friends but after finishing design school and completing an internship with her idol Betsey Johnson, was inspired to try her own thing.
The French Creole sexy girl feel to the collection is no mistake. "Many things inspire me: places, people music, time periods. New Orleans is a big inspiration for me"
This particular collection was inspired in part by the controversial movie Pretty Baby" with Brook shields as a 12 year old Storyville courtesan. I lived in the French Quarter and Garden districts before I moved here and love the fun, decadence, mystery and history. These qualities come through in my designs"
The exotic name of the line is inspired by the Crescent city too in a way. Ezili is the Creole voodoo goddess of love. She is very girly and flirty and loves pretty things. She is sometimes sweet and innocent, sometimes a wicked bad girl." Ezili embodies the spirit of my clothing."
Karlas background as a dancer reflects itself in her choices of fabrics. 'I like using fabric that move and flow with the body and have a dreamy, elegant quality: chiffons, tulle, velvet, and stretch fabrics. My clothes are great for dancing and prancing and showing off in. I l also love adding historical retro touches like ruffles, lace and gathering but its done in a way so the clothes are wearable for everyday and not costumey."
As an added sweet surprise, in every Ezili garment a tiny heart shaped charm is hidden somewhere. The heart is Ezilis symbol and my favorite shape. Its a good luck charm!"
The line is affordably priced from 25.00 to 250.00 and available at virgin threads .com and eziliclothing.com
