Australian Novel Develops Cult Following

Headlines of terrorism, war, scandal in the Catholic Church - 'The Devil's Madness' is a novel which coincides with current world instability and the difficult realities facing us all today.

(PRWEB) May 12, 2004 -- 'The Devils Madness, a novel by Australian author, Patricia Mackintosh, is developing a cult following a year after its release in the United States.

This is unusual for a book available only through online booksellers, but Book Groups across the country are realizing the significance and pull of this novel. It is only a matter of time before a major publisher grabs this one with both hands.

What is the attraction of 'The Devils Madness? It is the writing style, for one thing. Easy, flowing, compassionate. Research, for another - the author has a thorough knowledge of the issues, be it teenage boys in love, or a conscientious objector subjected to abuse within the prison system.

'The Devils Madness, the cover blurb states '...has as much relevance today as it has to the turbulent time of history it explores. It will have resonance with parents who, having lived through the Vietnam War, have fears about the effects of the war with Iraq on their children. Resonance indeed, in the current climate.
The novel probes in depth the past and still current problems within the Catholic Church, the Vietnam War and the case of conscientious objectors and prison brutality.

The novel, while set in Australia, has universal appeal. It has humor, quirky inventiveness and wonderful imagery. The search for the human values of friendship and camaraderie, despite adversity, is obviously striking a chord with many readers.
'The Devil's Madness' is a rare find.

About the author -- Patricia Mackintosh grew up in Sydney, Australia, and after her marriage, spent eleven years in Vanuatu in the South Pacific. She currently lives in McLean, Virginia, with her husband and golden Labrador, Jessi. Her two sons are living in Sydney. She holds a Masters Degree in Creative Writing, and teaches in Washington DC. She has written several award winning short stories and has recently completed her second novel.
