Lesbian African-American poet and spoken word artist from Atlanta, GA. performs at UCLA along with other top artists at gay and lesbian music festival.
(PRWEB) May 12, 2004 -- POETSTAR Records is proud to bring to UCLA Journey Light, the phenomenal African-American, lesbian spoken word artist and poet from Atlanta, GA. The poet will perform her concert on Sunday May 23, 2004 at the gay and lesbian music and arts festival at Kerckhoff Grand Salon, on the campus of UCLA at 5:30PM. This is a production of QUEER X CHIC, and is absolutely free.
Although compared to some of the industries best women writers like Meshell Ndegeocello and Alanis Morrisette, Journey Light has a style and uniqueness all her own. With a soothing voice, prolific lyrics, and slick, original delivery, Journey Light has been captivating audiences all across the country.
She has been called a "true" poet, and the "Meshell Ndegeocello" of poetry. Performing for just a little more than a year, she has already shared the same stage as Sini Anderson, Ami Mattison, and Rachel Sage. So impressed was musician and songwriter Sage after hearing Journey recite for the first time, she offered to manage the poet right on the spot.
Journey calls her poetry, "life" poetry because the words penetrate, move, comfort, and uplift. Her poetry will remind you of all the pain you had hidden for years, and all the joy you hope to feel now. Different from most poets and spoken word artists, she makes it hard for anyone to compare her to others.
Journey Light is now in the studio working on her 2nd cd titled, "Mama Ain't Raise No Punk." Her first cd and chapbook, both titled "From Darkness to Light", has been selling out in cafes and coffee houses throughout the South. You can look for Journey this summer as she performs her first Western tour. Cities will include Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Phoenix, Arizona.
Again, come out for the hottest evening of entertainment at the University of California Los Angeles on May 23, 2004 5:30pm.
