Wansbeck District Council implement a Microwave Radio Solution.

WDC, as part of the Northumberland Strategic Partnership and an active supporter of the COMSEN project have implemented a network supplying 100mb/s to a number of council sites using Pinnacle 155Mb/s Microwave Radios manufactured by Microwave Networks Inc, Maidenhead and installed by Rapier Systems, Basingstoke.

(PRWEB) May 16, 2004 -- John Kelly, Head of IT at WDC said that utilizing a wireless solution was the most advantageous and cost effective solution. Installation of either a fibre optic or cable network would have resulted in significant disruption during the installation phase. By implementing an IP based radio solution with additional 2mb/s E1 wayside channels, we have been able to carry not only traditional and IP voice and data traffic but we have also been able to backhaul CCTV images making use of the IP network from remote cameras monitoring public areas. The resulting network has allowed us to work collaboratively on a number of IT projects with neighboring authorities, which wouldn't otherwise have been possible.

The network has been designed with a high degree of resilience. If service between two sites is interrupted, traffic is automatically routed around other sites in the network. To date Comsen has experienced zero downtime. The whole network, which covers Morpeth, Wansbeck District, Blyth Valley District and a POP in Newcastle, was installed in less than 3 months, which when compared to lead times for leased lines or traditional fibre digs makes microwave technology very fast to deploy." Richard Mumford from Rapier Systems said.

We are very pleased to be associated with the recent project undertaken by WDC. Our Pinnacle and Proteus radio solutions provide ideal intranet-intranet and intranet-public network connection solutions for primarily IP-based services. WDC have demonstrated how efficiently a low-cost, highly secure transmission networks for dedicated line service within private networks can be rolled out across a wide geographical area" said Andy Hatcher, Director of Microwave Networks European Sales & Support Centre in Maidenhead.
