Who cares about super premium vodkas? Small Batch Brazilian cachaça puts flavor back into the cocktail.
Entrepreneur Dave Catania is banking on his latest import to the United States, a little known Brazilian distilled spirit called cachaça, to shake up the New York bar scene. A flavorful member of the rum family, a quality cachaça has a unique taste and bouquet reminiscent of the fresh pressed sugar cane from which it is distilled. This July, Cachaça Fazenda Mae De Ouro (Cachaça from the Mother of Gold Farm) will debut in New York City as the first microdistilled" cachaça exported to the United States.
New York, NY (PRWEB) May 13, 2004 -- Entrepreneur Dave Catania is banking on his latest import to the United States, a little known Brazilian distilled spirit called cachaça, to shake up the New York bar scene.
Delicious!" exclaims Mr. Catania, sipping a cachaça-based cocktail called a caiprinha made with Fazenda Mae De Ouro. To make a caiprinha, (pronounced ky-pee-reen-ya) fresh lime wedges are muddled together with fine sugar in a low-ball glass. The glass is then filled with crushed ice before it is topped off with a liberal dose of cachaça
An expert on cachaça, Mr. Catania toured Brazil extensively to find the perfect distillation to bring back to the United States. In Brazil there are countless cachaça distillers and several of the major Brazilian brands can be found at your local liquor store here in the U.S. I wanted to import the authentic, traditional, small-batch stuff that Brazilian Americans bring back in the bottom of their suitcases. I knew I had the right one when after my first taste I just couldnt put it down."
Statement Regarding the New York Times Article by Larry Rohter
Hard liquor in America has always had a social stigma attached to it, but not so in Brazil. A caiprinha is as common and socially acceptable as a can of beer at a Memorial Day barbecue. The drinking habits of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva are well within the norms of the Brazilian culture and not excessive by even U.S. standards. Good cachaça is a pleasure to drink; and should be enjoyed with friends, either neat, on the rocks, as a caiprinha or chilled to near freezing.

Aged in Oak Barrels for 1-2 years just a little over 400 cases are released per month, with each bottle being numbered by date and lot.
