Reports of Prisoner Abuse Appalling

The world has seen the graphic pictures depicting the abusive behavior of some of the members of the United States military toward Iraqi prisoners. The behavior is appalling and inexcusable and demonstrates the cruelty of human nature. It is incomprehensible to many of us that this kind of behavior still exists in the world. This will surely be a dark stain in our history books, and it brings to mind another period of time in our countrys history when people were treated as property, stripped of their basic right to freedom.

(PRWEB) May 15, 2004 --The world has seen the graphic pictures depicting the abusive behavior of some of the members of the United States military toward Iraqi prisoners. This time, of course, was when slavery was commonly practiced in our young nation. Author Randy Guthrie has written a bold new novel depicting this period of time, titled Rain-The Civil War Years.

The story introduces us to the character of Rain, who is an unlikely hero as a black man during the Civil War era. We follow a group of slaves, led by Rain, as they escape from a southern plantation and journey through the Underground Railroad on a quest for freedom that is fraught with danger and adventure. We are drawn into this quest and find ourselves experiencing the emotions and desire that must have propelled other slaves, just like Rain, to make the treacherous journey toward freedom during that turbulent period of time.

Today, the world is a morally ambiguous place and it is refreshing to come across a book that is not only moral, but also embodies the finest qualities that still exist, even in our uncertain world. If you are searching for a book that will remind you that there are good, decent people still in this world, then look no further. Rain-The Civil War Years will reinforce your belief in the greatness of the human spirit. This book is published by American Book Publishing and is available to order at stores near you. It is also available at a discount on the Publisher Direct Discount Bookstores website at http://www.pdbookstore.com.
