Digital Be-In 13 -- The Transparent Network" to be held May 29 at SOMARTS in San Francisco. 60s Legends Ram Dass, Chet Helms and Wavy Gravy Join Tech Visionaries in the 13th Version of the SF Cyberculture Happening

The 13th Digital Be-In is being held in San Francisco on Saturday, May 29, 2004, 7 pm to 4 am, at the SOMARTS cultural center. Known as the original "cyberculture" event, the Digital Be-In carries on the spirit of the Human Be-In - held January 14, 1967 in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park - with 60's icons Ram Dass, Wavy Gravy and Chet Helms speaking to the crowd along with digital visionaries such as Marc Canter, founder of Macromedia, and Kevin Bankston of the Electronic Frontier Foundation. San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) May 15, 2004 ---Producer Michael Gosney announced the full details of the 13th Digital Be-In, the cyberculture event that showcased and inspired creative and socially conscious computer applications during the digital media renaissance of the 1990s. The Be-In is returning for the third time to the SOMARTS cultural center in San Francisco, for the first time on Memorial Day weekend.

Beginning in the late 1980s as a high-minded, high-tech party held during San Franciscos Macworld Expo conference every January, the multimedia event combines musical performances, exhibits, speakers and an immersive environment of projections and interactive art installations.

This years Transparent Network" theme, following past Be-In themes such as Freedom of Speech on the Internet" and Cultural Diversity in Cyberspace," will be interpreted in various ways by the roster of speakers, performers, and fine artists participating in a group exhibit at the event. Highlights include an 8 pm discussion circle with Ram Dass (moderated by Wavy Gravy); a tribute to Allen Cohen, publisher of the San Francisco Oracle newspaper and co-producer of the 1967 Human Be-In; the Virtual World Theater with the Virtual Burning Man in Microsoft Flight Simulator, and a virtual drive on Mars; and a devotional trance ritual with meditative projections by Axis Mundi at midnight.Digital Be-In 13 runs from 7 pm to 4 am at the SOMARTS cultural center at 934 Brannan Street. Digital Be-In 13 will have three stages with live performances by Alcyone, Axis Mundi, Bluetech, Cybervixen, Dianarosa, Foxgluv, Irina Mikhailova, Kali's Angels, Phutureprimitive, Tonehenge, Triptech and DJs Dov, Goz, KJ, Ooah, Rob Rayle, Shakatura, Space Cowboys (DJs 8Ball & Polarbear) and Dr. Spook.

Doors open at 7 for the Internetworking Salon." The evenings presentations begin at 8 pm with a discussion circle with Ram Dass moderated by Wavy Gravy, followed by speakers Vinit Allen of the Sustainable World Coalition, Kevin Bankston of the Electronic Frontier Foundation, comedian-sage Swami Beyondananda, Marc Canter, founder of Macromedia, social networking expert, Jim Fournier, founder of the PlanetWork conferences, Michael Gosney, founder of the Digital Be-In, Marika Olsen of MoveOn.org, R.U. Sirius, writer/editor, Mondo 2000/Neophiles. A number of surprise guests are also expected during the evening. Music on the main stage begins at 10:30.

The Digital Be-In will feature exhibits from groups such as the Internet Archive, the Wild Divine bio-feedback game, Magnetic Presence (releasing their World Spirit DVD with artwork by Alex Grey and music by Kenji Williams), and MoveOn.org showing the Bush-in-30-Seconds DVD.

San Francisco high end printing group Digital Pond is sponsoring the Transparent Network Gallery -- a group show of visionary artists interpreting the Be-In 13 theme curated by Michael Gosney. Contributing artists include Barbara Nessim, Michael Green and Stevee Postman.

Projections at the Be-In are being provided by Dimension 7, Synapse Productions and some of the leading VJs (video jockeys) in the Bay Area. Inventor Patrick Flanagans Emerald City laser of Burning Man fame will add to the visual mix. San Francisco event producer Anon Salon is providing ambient decor and other support for the event.
