Speedway Elementary School Girls Seek National Recognition After Winning Regional Toy Challenge

Four sixth-grade school girls, dubbed "the Micro Chicks" invented a game about spiders and are working to refine their game and earn enough money to travel to San Diego, California to compete in the national Toy Challenge.

(PRWEB) May 16, 2004 -- A team of four 12-year old girls from Fisher Elementary school in Speedway, Indiana who call themselves the Micro-Chicks tied for first place in the regional Toy Challenge competition in Raleigh, N.C. The Micro-Chicks demonstrated a game they invented for the second annual Toy Challenge, a competition sponsored by astronaut Sally Ride and Hasbro. Judges offered feedback to refine the game World Wide Web Racing" before the national Toy Challenge competition July 8th in San Diego, CA. WWWracing is a board game designed for the family to help players overcome arachnophobia while trying to be the first to finish building a web and catching bugs.
   
The Micro Chicks won $250 toward travel expenses to attend the nationals. The purpose of the competition is to encourage children, especially girls, to learn about science, engineering and the design process. The regional competition was held at the national headquarters of Sigma Xi, the scientific research society. For the next two months the Micro Chicks will be working to improve their game and raise enough money to attend the national Toy Challenge at the San Diego Aerospace Museum.
