BuzzFlood surpasses 1 million hits
BuzzFlood reaches a milestone
(PRWEB) May 18, 2004 --In the summer of 2003, a group of Dartmouth College students banded together to create "BuzzFlood," a student-run group that celebrates excellence at Dartmouth. Think of it like the "Associated Press of Positive Stories." On Friday, May 15th, the BuzzFlood website (http://www.buzzflood.org) surpassed 1 million hits. Thousands of users have been flocking to the website since the release of the site in fall 2003.
The staff, which started as a group of 5, has ballooned to 24 with a crisp purpose and organizational structure. Said first year student Jess Lehman, a member of BuzzFlood, "It feels great to be a part of such a fabulous and dedicated team and it warms me to know that our work is appreciated. It motivates me to pursue our goals with renewed vigor." Co-Founder and Dartmouth junior Jim Baehr said of the 1 million mark, "It's satisfying to see that so many people now better understand Dartmouth because of the hard work that's gone into this site."
The President and Co-Founder of BuzzFlood of David Gardner expressed his feelings: "Really, the Dartmouth family at large deserves a share of the credit for BuzzFlood's success because it is the stories rather than the story-tellers that attract visitors to BuzzFlood.org." Gardner is looking forward to the day when BuzzFlood reaches 10 million hits.
The Co-Director of The BuzzLine, the part of BuzzFlood that focuses on stories, Kerry Snow commented on the achievement: "Hitting a million is quite an accomplishment. Seeing that others are interested in BuzzFlood and find it worthwhile will just provide our team with encouragement to continue working hard."
Not only did the group reach the 1 million mark, it posted its 1,000th story a few weeks ago. Co-Founder Nick Baum said, "It shows what a bunch of students who are passionate about their school can accomplish."
Dartmouth College has embraced the group. The Office of Admissions and Financial Aid has used BuzzFlood as an effective recruiting tool. The Athletics Department uses the website as an "immediate source" of news. The Dartmouth College Fund Office disseminates the BuzzLine to Dartmouth volunteers. And the Tucker Foundation will soon become the arm of the college with which BuzzFlood is affiliated. BuzzFlood allows folks to learn more about Dartmouth everyday, "Through the BuzzFlood, I learn a little bit more about what Dartmouth has to offer on a daily basis," said Sarah Pence, a BuzzFlood staffer.
Kim Keating, Director of PR at Tuck School of Business, commented on the group: "I'm absolutely impressed with the energy, optimism, and quality of work that these volunteering undergrads have put into their first-rate service."
